A Hole

Hand over hand,

Higher and higher she reaches

A ceiling of azure and gold beckons

It reaches inside lifting her heart

She reaches out

A violent blow knocks her back

Her stomach drops

Lead courses through her veins

She struggles to maintain a hold

Words escape her lips

Caught and twisted away before they can appear

Replaced by nothing

A gasp for hope finds nothing

The brilliance above recedes farther and farther

Pain and fear sit upon each shoulder

Hushed words fall upon scared ears

You will never get out

You will never be free
